About half of our calories should come from carbohydrates. Whole foods are healthiest, since they provide nutrients with carbohydrates. Refined sugars are stripped of nutrients. Added sugar can lead to heart disease, diabetes, sugar crashes, and premature aging. Most sugar we consume comes from soda and other sweetened drinks. Drink more water, rethink dessert, read packages' nutrition facts, avoid sugar substitutes, and choose whole foods.
