Crescent and Cross: Rise of Islam and Age of Crusades - Full Program

This program portrays the spread of Islamic faith and rule after the death of Mohammed. Through conquest, trade, and missions, Islam came to dominate the Middle East and Northern Europe during the Middle Ages. Crusades to the Holy Land widened the gap between Muslim and Christian, and weakened the feudal system. Christian monastic orders developed concurrently with the Muslim expansion. Monks played a role in the spread of culture. The Inquisition was the church’s response to heresy, witchcraft and religious differences in the Middle Ages.
