Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in August 2005. It was the most destructive hurricane in history. Those who could evacuated ahead of the storm; the poor were left behind. Survivors struggled to find food, water, and shelter. Rescue and relief efforts were seriously flawed, and neighboring areas treated evacuees with suspicion.
