The Gilded Age - Full Program

Series: American Experience

During the Gilded Age, Americans believed they were the leaders of civilization and progress, but the late 19th century was a fractious time where the gaps between wealth, opportunity, and status increased. America was becoming an industrialized nation and former slaves joined the urban migration to industrial cities. Wealthy businessmen guided the U.S. economy.
