Joel Engel was born in Poland outside of Warsaw where he lived until the Germans occupied the country in 1939. Engel and his family were moved into the Warsaw Ghetto until the systematic deportation of all of the Jews out of ghetto in cattle cars. Engel explains his trip to Birkenau at just fourteen, his transfer to Auschwitz, his escape from a death march, and finally moving to America.
